Numeracy & Literacy

The OCR Certificate in Literacy and Numeracy (available at levels 1 and 2) is a nationally recognised qualification for basic skills at levels 1 and 2 of the National Qualifications Framework. This qualification is approved for use by 16 - 19 learners and adults. The qualification has also received Section 96 approval for use by Key Stage 4 pupils who are assessed by their schools as needing access to a wider range of certification in Key Stage 4 alongside the usual GCSE in English and Mathematics.

This qualification aims to develop candidates' ability to apply communication and numeracy skills in a range of familiar contexts and situations.

To gain certification at levels 1 and 2 candidates must pass an external test. These are multiple choice tests that are externally set by QCA and marked by OCR. There is no requirement to produce a portfolio of evidence. OCR offers these tests on demand; both paper-based tests and e-tests are available.
